Governed by the 2017 Code of Conduct
The industry is governed by the 2017 code of conduct, covering environmental performance, protection of human rights, and responsible metal production. Traceability is a core component across this five-stage chain of custody.
01 · Artisan Miner
The majority of Tanzanian tin ore is extracted by artisan and smallholder miners, typically working in small teams under a Primary Mining License holder.
02 · PML Owner
The Primary Mining License owner buys ore from artisan miners and remits statutory royalty payments to the Ministry and local government on every sale.
03 · Broker / Dealer
Where applicable, licensed brokers or dealers purchase ore from PML owners on a consignment basis under their own trading license.
04 · Processing Facility
Purchased ore is transported to a processing or storage facility, where secondary quality checks and audits are conducted before further movement.
05 · Smelting Facility
A government permit and police escort are required to transport verified ore from the processing facility to the smelting facility for final refinement.
